ODC to Consider Chamber Coordinator
The Odessa Development Corp. will once again consider a request by the Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to fund a manufacturing and industrial workforce development coordinator.
The Hispanic chamber is seeking $118,939 for the position, $71,000 of which would go toward salaries and wages.
A similar proposal went before the ODC's board in March, but was tabled because the board wanted to form a committee to address the employment shortage in Odessa before determining what steps to take.
The formation of the workforce recruitment committee is also on the agenda for Thursday's meeting. Leslie Toombs, a professor at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, has been put in charge of determining what the committee needs to focus on. Rick Carlton, ODC board president, has said he hopes to have the committee appointed by November.
In other action, the board will consider:
>> Appointments to the budget committee.
>> Reports from economic agencies and board projects and committees.
>> A workforce recruitment study.
